Sunday Mornings in 2020 | With One Voice: A Journey Through the Lectionary

On the 1st Sunday in Advent we started using the Revised Common Lectionary, Year A, to guide the congregation through the 2019-2020 liturgical year. The RCL is used in many churches across denominations and around the world. It is humbling to realize that on any given Sunday we are proclaiming God’s Story with many different Christians, yet with one voice. Our prayer is that this journey will lead to a continued openness to dialogue and work with Christians from different backgrounds.

Sunday Mornings Through February 23 | Parenthood on the Mount

Calling all parents of school-aged children. This 7-week class led by Pastor Phil will explore principles of parenthood from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount—the greatest sermon ever. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents at OTCC for mutual learning and support. Sunday School classes for children will be in session, so drop off your child and then join the class which starts at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Please RSVP here.

February 21-23 | Men’s Retreat

We will return to Cross Junction, Virginia for a weekend of fellowship, growth, and fun. Guest speakers will lead our times of discussion and there will be plenty of time to relax at the retreat center or explore a nearby state park. The cost is $50 per person, which covers lodging and meals. You can register here. Please register by Sunday, February 16th.

February 26 | Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday on February 26th begins the season of Lent. Lent is the period of 40 weekdays that spans from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. The 40 days of Lent represent the time that Jesus spent in the wilderness as he endured temptation and prepared for his public ministry. On Ash Wednesday many followers of Jesus will gather and receive the sign of the cross made from ashes on their foreheads. The ashes symbolize both our mortality and repentance. On Ash Wednesday our pastoral staff will be available at the sanctuary entrance to welcome all who come for a short time of prayer and the imposition of ashes. Simply drop in as you can during the following times: 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
