Become A Christian
Become A Christian
The first step in becoming a Christian is acknowledging that we are not capable of saving ourselves. Humanity is separated from God due to our sinful nature. We are not alone in our sinfulness, since every single person is by default separated from God due to the sin in their life.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
In becoming a Christian, we must admit the fact that we cannot live a life that meets God’s standards of holiness. God has graciously provided a solution. Amidst our shortcomings, God sent his own Son, Jesus Christ, to save us. Jesus came to earth as God in the flesh, 100% God and 100% man. When he died on the cross he took upon himself the sins of the whole world, including yours. Through his death on the cross and his resurrection, he defeated sin and death and in turn provides salvation to everyone who calls on his name. We share in Jesus’ victory!
“But God commends his love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
We cannot get rid of our sin on our own. We need a Savior. We find a perfect Savior in Jesus.
“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.” – Titus 3:5
God’s grace allows us to come to God and through faith receive God’s gift of grace and forgiveness. The penalty for each person’s sin must be paid, but what makes the God’s gift to us so remarkable is that Jesus has paid our debts through his death on the cross.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
God calls us to commit our lives to Him. We must acknowledge that we are sinners who need a savior and then believe in our minds and in our hearts the Jesus Christ lived on earth as God in the flesh and paid the full penalty for our sins on the cross. As a result, we confess that Jesus is our Lord and our God and in doing so we surrender control of our life to his direction.
We would love to walk with you if God is calling you to make this decision. God draws us to Him in a personal manner, and from there God calls us to grow in our faith amidst a community of Christians. We are here for you at OTCC and we want to help you get to know Jesus, become a Christian, and take next steps in your walk with God.
